Volunteer Opportunities:
EARLY-STAGE SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT LEADERS
Early Stage Social Engagement Leaders work in close collaboration with staff to meticulously plan and execute social engagement events tailored for individuals living with memory loss and their care partners. These leaders play a pivotal role in ensuring that each event/activity fosters a positive and enriching experience for each participant involved. The scope of Early Stage Social Engagement activities encompasses a variety of options, including Art, Music, and Writing classes, Mindfulness sessions, Chair Yoga, and Photography workshops. Any proposed activity must be adaptable to suit the needs of individuals with cognitive impairment. Early Stage Social Engagement Leaders commit to overseeing two cycles, each lasting eight weeks, of a specific social engagement activity.
SUPPORT GROUP FACILITATOR
LANGUAGE NEEDS: ENGLISH, SPANISH, HAITIAN CREOLE, CHINESE-MANDARIN
Support Group Facilitators cultivate a nurturing and inclusive space where individuals can openly express their emotions, thoughts, and experiences, fostering a collective journey towards coping with and managing the challenges of dementia. They guide caregivers and those living with dementia in fostering peer support within the group, facilitating meaningful interactions. Additionally, facilitators deliver relevant Association materials and information, ensuring that all attendees have a positive and enriching experience.
COMMUNITY EDUCATOR
LANGUAGE NEEDS: ENGLISH, SPANISH, HAITIAN CREOLE, RUSSIAN, BENGALI, KOREAN, CHINESE-CANTONESE, AND CHINESE MANDARIN
Alzheimer's Association Community Educators (AACEs) are volunteer public speakers who help raise awareness, provide education, and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs in the community. Community Educators deliver at least 12 webinar-based presentations annually, using prepared Alzheimer’s Association evidence-based consumer education programs on a variety of care and support topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as information for individuals and families impacted by the disease. Community Educators work with Alzheimer’s Association staff partners to identify and coordinate education programs that reach target audiences. Coordination includes securing program partners, scheduling/preparing presentations, and managing technological needs.
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer’s Association services. This position would include representing the organization at a target of 12-community events/year and offering 15-20-minute Alzheimer’s Awareness presentations throughout the community.
DATA ENTRY OPERATOR
Alzheimer's Association Data Entry Operators are responsible for entering constituent data and other information into the Association’s Personify software system, ensuring that records for the Association are updated and accurate. The Data Entry position also requires candidates to interpret data received in different formats, including but not limited to: hand written communication, typed forms, Google docs, online data, faxed forms, incoming mail, and email. This role is now hybrid!
Please note: All volunteer positions require a 1-year commitment, which is renewable upon successful completion of an annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner. The Alzheimer’s Associationwill provide training, information and electronic or printed materials to assist in your efforts. Each position has a unique training pathway including several hours of online learning, self-study and mentoring by a local Alzheimer’s Association staff member to help you reach your volunteer goals.
